Let's take a look at some of these thrilling sanctuaries and the different animals that can be sighted in and around these reserves. Some of the famous wildlife safaris include the likes of Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench, Ranthambore etc.

 

A. Kanha National Park: Located in central India in the state of Madhya Pradesh, this reserve is the largest in the state. Primarily known for its tigers the park also houses leopards, wild dogs, the Gaur (the largest wild animal in the park), wild cats, pythons and cobras etc. Spanning over 900 square kilometers it certainly offers a lasting experience in terms of an exciting wildlife safari in India. 

 

B. Ranthambore National ParkSituated in Western India in the desert state of Rajasthan, Ranthamboreis another famous tiger reserve. It has been branded as one of the best tiger reserves in the country. Late winters or mid summers are marked as the best time to visit. Tigers are often sighted in their natural habitats here. The park sized about 400 square km has a thicket of deciduous forests which make it serene and home to various animals like the hyena, wild boar, nilghai, sambar and sloth bear. 

 

C. PenchNational Park: Right out of the fable 'The Jungle Book', Pench National Park is situated on the border of Chhindwara and Seoni districts of Madhya Pradesh. The park is named after the Penchriver and is adjacent to the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru National Park.

D. Bandhavgarh National ParkKnown for its large biodiversity, this tiger's haven is also located in Madhya Pradesh. With the national animal at the peak of the food chain, the park also houses 27 other mammals and over 250 species of birds. A sporadic trinket as far as sightings of the Royal Bengal Tiger are concerned, tourists almost always come out saying they spotted at least 2 tigers if not 4 more.

 

Also popular in the list of wildlife safaris are Gir in Gujarat, which offers an amazing chance to witness a pride of Asiatic Lions, majestic and robust kings of the grassland. Located close to the gulf of Gujarat this park also offers picturesque locations. 

 

Kaziranga National Park in Assam is also very famous owing to the fact that the one horned rhinoceros, wild tigers and elephants are found here. Periyar in Kerala is another national park offering elephant safaris. It is also home to the giant Malabar squirrel and wild bison. Kerala is home to the calming backwaters which are every tourist's delight.

 

In short one must travel to India to witness the spectacle in the form of many species coexisting. The safaris provide a unique insight to wildlife and an exciting ride for any nature enthusiast. Coupled with mighty number of birds, flora and the gloriously scenic locations India stands at the very heart of wildlife and is certainly worth a visit.
