Certainly one of the significant highlights of the city, Jaisalmer Fort extends around 100 metres over the city. There are temples and palaces situated inside the fort. There is also an emporium known as Manek Chowk which is situated outside the Jaisalmer Fort.This is the sole fort in the country which is also a dwelling for common people today. Patwon ki Haweli is one of the grandestmansions in Jaisalmer. This four storey mansion is constructed in a narrow lane. The mansion is segregated into to six apartments out of which two are in the possession of the archaeological survey of India, two are private residences and the remaining two are owned by families that handle craft shops. You will see vestiges of paintings on the walls inside in addition to some mirror work.


Built in the nineteenth century,the idea of Nathmal Ki haveli was conceived by two architectures who were brothers. One of them focussed on the construction of the mansion towards the left, the other worked his magic on the right. The result was a magnum of opus that exemplified the symmetry during the course of the construction. The drawings in diminutive fashion occupies the interior walls. You will also witness robust tuskers chiselled using yellow sandstone.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli was constructed over 300 years ago at the time when Salim Singh was the head of the state. Jaisalmer was the capital of the royal state during that period. His manor has an attractively cambered ceiling and has splendid arched brackets in the shape of peacocks. The mansion is situated right under the hill. It is believed that there were two extra storeys to the mansion which were later pulled down by the maharaja himself.


Sam Sand Dunes are one of the most striking spots in the whole western region of Rajasthan. The best time to visit these spots are the months of February and October because this is when the heat is comparatively less in the desert areas of Rajasthan.
