The Golden City Jaisalmer

Travel Guide
The Golden City Jaisalmer

Certainly one of the significant highlights of the city, Jaisalmer Fort extends around 100 meters over the city. There are temples and palaces situated inside the fort. There is also an emporium known as Manek Chowk which is situated outside the Jaisalmer Fort. This is the sole fort in the country which is also a dwelling for common people today. The architecture built with yellow sandstone doesn't fail to spellbind the sightseers. The fort also consists of Jain temples which are magnificently constructed by the rulers in the past.

Places to Visit in Jaisalmer

  • Patwon ki Haweli

Patwon ki Haweli is one of the grandest mansions in Jaisalmer. This four-story mansion is constructed in a narrow lane. The mansion is segregated into six apartments out of which two are in the possession of the archaeological survey of India, two are private residences and the remaining two are owned by families that handle craft shops. You will see vestiges of paintings on the walls inside in addition to some mirror work.

  • Nathmal Ki haveli

Built-in the nineteenth century, the idea of Nathmal Ki haveli was conceived by two architectures who were brothers. One of them focussed on the construction of the mansion towards the left, the other worked his magic on the right. The result was a magnum of opus that exemplified the symmetry during the course of the construction. The drawings in diminutive fashion occupy the interior walls. You will also witness robust tuskers chiseled using yellow sandstone.
