According to the Press Trust of India, Tourism Ministry will develop a mobile application that will work as an audio-video guide for five iconic locations of India and will help tourists during their visits to these historic sites. Ministry of Tourism issued a statement on 27th December 2018 that the application will be developed in the collaboration with a technology firm M/s Redbird Technologies.  This audio/ video guide app will be developed under the Centre’s  ‘Adopt a Heritage ‘scheme launched in June 2018.

Five Iconic Destinations are as follows:

1)    Amer Fort (Jaipur, Rajasthan)

2)    Cola Beach (Goa)

3)    Kumarakom (Kerala)

4)    Kaziranga (Assam)

Tourists visiting these sites will no longer have to depend on the local human guide to explore the hotspots. They can log-in to an audio-video app to get the information.

Ministry of tourism has shortlisted seven agencies which will be known as“Monument Mitras”.  Minister KJ Alphons handed over the letter of intent to these agencies.   Earlier Ministry issued a letter of intent to 37 agencies for their interest in 107 sites of India.   These agencies are taking this initiative as their CSR activity for a heritage site.  The step to develop such a mobile application was felt to ease the visit of the tourists to these hotspots. They will not have to pay big fees for guided tours now.    They can take a tour of the site at their own pace without being a part of any traveler group.
